Great weekend finds and a vintage fabric giveaway!

I don't go to as many estate sales as I used to, but my friends Nancy and Mary Ann had a sale near my house this weekend and I knew I just had to go.

The homes in my neighborhood as well as the surrounding neighborhoods were all built mid century (50s-60s). I'm thinking about starting a weekly post on mid century modern homes in Houston. These homes are similar in design to the homes that Frank Lloyd Wright built back in the day.

The house that the estate sale was held in was no different. I went to the preview sale on Thursday evening (Mary Ann calls dealers to come in prior to the sale being open to the public). I walked into this house and it was almost as if the people who lived there made no purchases after the 1950s. The furniture, the appliances-everything was mid century design and in nearly new condition, it seemed.

I purchased a pile of vintage fabric, some vintage metal zippers (still new in the package), vintage buttons and several vintage patterns. Here's a pic of the pile of vintage fabric: I'm going to have a giveaway for a few yards of fabric (this giveaway is not for the whole pile-just a few yards-one pattern). I'm not sure which particular pattern yet, but leave a comment to this post if you are interested in this giveaway. Tell me what you would make with this fabric. I also need a way to reach you if you are the winner. You may leave your email in your comment post or you may contact me through blogger. All comments must be received by midnight CST, Friday November 21st. I will use an online random integer generator to select the winner. This is really great fabric! Good luck! PS. Open to US and Canadian residents only. If you live in a country other than the US or Canada, you are welcome to enter, but you will have to pay for your own shipping. Thanks so much!

I also purchased this great blue art glass vase:
and this cute little gold shelf:
and these vintage photograph postcards from Europe (I think the people who lived in this house were originally from Germany):

Lastly, I purchased five vintage lamps. I don't know what my thing is for vintage lamps, but I love them. I am selling four of them and I kept one for myself. If you click on the photo's below, you will be redirected to my listings online:

the fabric looks great - I think I would make maybe a knitting needle holder as a gift and some yo-yo flowers!

Great finds! Those fabrics remind me of kitchen curtains and aprons that my mom & my aunt had.

Since I don't have a kitchen window, I'd make aprons!

What cute fabrics! I think I would also use them for my kitchen window or table cloth and maybe use some for the cuffed hem of my capri jeans. So many great uses!

Ooh, beautiful fabric!
I've been experimenting with vintage sewing patterns, especially dress patterns, and reimagining them with a combination of vintage and new fabrics... trying to work with the combination of old meets new on an old-fashioned silhouette. So that's what I would use it for!

What great finds! You must have had so much fun :)
I love adding vintage details to different outfits, whether it's an accessory or a bit of detailing on an item of clothing. So I'd probably use the fabric to make accessories to add some vintage touches to my outfits :)

Estate/Garage sales are good to find such vintage things.

Maybe make a "vintage" apron! Hmmm, or potholders!

Hi Heather!

I'd definitely use some nice fabric to use as a contrast to a toddler girl's jacket.

OH....some lovely found treasures here! That vintage fabric looks lovely...I would probably incorporate it into a mini album somehow...or an album made of fabric entirely...it's been on my mind's list...and this giveaway could just be the perfect muse!
