Vintage clothing addiction in Houston, Texas

So I've come to the conclusion that I am no different than a drug addict. I guess if you have an addictive personality like I do, you will and can become addicted to just about anything. Although my addiction does not cause physical harm to my body, it makes me completely crazy that I always go to sales and if there are vintage clothes, I usually end up buying something that I did not really need in the first place.

All of the vintage clothing that I sell hangs in the closet that I share with my son and his father. Today, the bar that our clothing hangs on literally came off of the wall and all of the clothing is now sitting in piles on my floor. Justin is at Home Depot right now trying to figure out what we can do to fix this mess. I've also gone through my things now since they are not in the closet and I am going to "lot" all of the things that I think will be easy to sell and donate the other stuff.

The Orange Show Houston, Texas

Okay, so I have heard about the Orange Show here in Houston, Texas for a very long time however, I have never been, until last night.

The Orange Show is a huge fundraiser for artists. They are affiliated with the Art Car Parade and a lot of other art things. The purpose of the Orange Show is to raise money for artists. It is more of a social gathering than anything, but it was fun to go none the less!

I wore one of my new vintage black 50's cocktail dresses and my vintage cord bag as well as my vintage choker. I'm selling the dress in my store, but I had to wear it to the event.

This evening I have gotten lost in the Internet. Blogs really amaze me. There's so much you can learn from other people. You also realize that you may not be the only person who has tedious projects that you've been putting off for a long time.

I visited this blog: http://www.nikkishell.typepad.com/wardroberefashion and realized that we all have buttons to add, seams to hem and other things to mend. Thank GOD I'm not the only one. I have like 6 dresses that either need a new zipper, buttons or hems sewn. I mean, I am going to sell these clothes once they've been repaired, but between all of the other things I have going on right now, I just have not found the time.

I have so much to do tomorrow. I need to list some new items in my store, I need to finish out my new order of onesies, ship the order I've just completed, take care of Dominic, estate sales-Guess what??? I bet I don't get half of it done.

Vintage 40's & 50's dresses and suits

I have always had a love for vintage clothing, ever since I can remember. They surely don't make garments the way they used to. If you look into a vintage garment, most of the seams will be pinked and there will almost always be hem tape used as this is how a garment should be made.

The garments of way back when actually had design to them. They were designed and constructed with some thought put into them. Everything in stores today is so mass produced it almost makes me sick. Why would you want to look exactly like another person? It does not make any sense to me. Sure, you can wear that piece differently that the next person, but what's the point. Most of the garments today are way over priced anyhow. You are paying for advertising, and the cost of goods, but mostly for advertising-I'm sure of it.

I like vintage 40's & 50's dresses and suits. I like the more fitted garments, but I do like to look at the big circle skirt dresses as well. I know back in the 40's there were so many restrictions on garments in terms of how much fabric could be used and even what types of fabrics garments could be made of. I know that garments weren't allowed to have seams in certain areas because it was a waste of fabric. What a fit nightmare for the designers. I went to school for fashion design and remember putting darts in certain places when I could not get my pattern to cooperate. If those designers weren't allowed to put extra darts in fabric, that would have been an extremely difficult task, at least in my opionion.

I'm tired!!

So it's now Saturday and I feel as if my ADD has gotten the best of me this week. I have been procrastinating doing anything and i have SOO much to do. I still have more clothes to list in my store and I have not even taken the photo's of them yet. I have to finish my onesies for a client who retuns tomorrow and I have three let to do. I have not cleaned yet today. ARGH!!
